Description

On the façade of the Kunsthalle are about 28 statues in niches, moreover, there are about 48 portrait medallions (the exact numbers are difficult to count, since parts of the façade from the road are hardly visible or even unvisible).

    Information Sign

    hamburger kunsthalle 1863-68 errichtet auf der Alsterhöhe, einem Teil der ehemaligen Befestigung, Entwurf G. Schirrmacher und H. von der Hude. Bauplastik mit Künstlerporträts und allegorische Figurengruppen.
    1914-19 südliche Erweiterung, Entwurf A. Erbe.

    The Hamburg Art Gallery was built in 1863-68 on Alster Heights, a part of the fortifications at the time. Design by G. Schirrmacher and H. von der Hude.
    Decorations include portraits of artists and allegorical groups of figures.
    Southern extension 1914-19, by A. Erbe.
