Description

Marble statue of Humboldt sitting on a chair holding a book in his lap. The chair is adorned with lion's heads, and classical reliefs on the back. On the sides of the pedestal are his name and three reliefs:
  1. WILHELM von HUMBOLDT, within a laurel wreath, in a cartouche, with an owl on top.
  2. A sitting woman and a putto carrying a bust of vitellus.
  3. Justice, depicted as a sitting woman with a sword and scales on the floor in front of her, reading from a book carried by a putto.
  4. A woman sitting against a plate with the names Sokrates, Plato and Aristoteles (in Greek), together with a putto she is holding a cloth.
