Description

Bronze (or cast iron) statue of the emperor with in his hand a document with the text: "Aufhebung / der / Leibeigenschaft / Josef II" (Abolition of Serfdom).

Unveiled 19 July 1903. From the end of the First World War the statue was stored under the floor of the Orthodox Church of Cyril and Methodius. After 1945 it was transferred tot the local parish court. The base of the statue served for a war monument. On 22 Oct. 1992 the statue was replaced on its original place.

An identical statue is also in Josefov, Lanškroun, Vienna, St. Pölten and several other places, the document shows different text and in some cases, the document is in a roll.
