Gilded bronze equestrian equestrian statue, traditionally intended as a portrait of emperor Otto I. The statue is flanked by two female figures carryng the symbols of the emperor: the shield with the imperial eagle, and a lance with flag. The group is placed on a column and is covered by a baroque baldachin on six pillars.
The statue is the oldest free standing equestrian statue north of the Alps. The original sandstone statue is in the Kulturhistorische Museum Magdeburg. The copy is made 1966 by Heinrich Apel. In 2000 the statue is gilded.
