Annotation

The monument is dedicated to the citizens of Barcelona, who in 1809 were executed when the city rose against the Napoleonic occupation.
Llimona made the bronze group in 1929-30, it was placed on this location in 1941. The stone angels are made by Navarro. The architectural design is by Pere Benavent de Barberà i Abelló. The square is named after a man who gifted his house to the city, the house was subsequently demolished to create the square.
