Description

Marble sculpture showing dead Icarus fallen on the rocks.
On the front of the pedestal two portrait medallions and their airplane, and on the back a relief showing some fisherman on the beach of Le Crotoy looking at the airplane of the Caudron brothers.

The relief portraits are signed: Alesieux sculpt. The Icarus sculpture and the relief on the back is signed: Alesieux d'après fossé

Annotation

The original monument of Fossé was in bronze and was destroyed in World War II. In 1954 a new monument was erected of marble. The Icarus figure and the relief identical with the bronze monument, the portraits of the brothers Caudron was newly designed by Lesieux.
