Annotation

Unveiled 28 October 1959 in Whitehall by the US Ambassador John Hay Whitney at the commemoration of the 350th anniversary of the discovery of Virginia.
Moved to this site in 2001 as it was out of scale with other statues which had since been erected nearby, it was replaced with the statue of Lord Alanbrooke
