Description

Plaque depicting long lines of troops awaiting evacuation. Superimposed is a cross with in its centre two soldiers, carrying a third. Below is the quite "...we shall never surrender" by Sir Winston Churchill, and in the side arms two boats, the MV Sundowner and the MV New Britannic. At bottom left is the Dunkirk Veterans Association badge and at the bottom right is the badge of the Association of Dunkirk Little Ships.

Inscription(s)

to commemorate the safe return to these shores of 218,226 men of the british
expeditionary force, together with 120,000 french and belgians from the
beaches of dunkerque by an armada of naval and civilian vessels of all
types and sizes during "operation dynamo" 26 may to 4 june 1940

Presented by the east kent maritime trust to mark the 60st Anniversary in the year 2000
