  2. the remarkable courage of the Maltese sailor, Giuseppi Ruggier, who swam ashore and climbed the cliff with a rope - so he saved a lot of people.

Annotation

The paired set of sculptures is unveiled on Saturday 24th October 2009, during the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Royal Charter tragedy by Michael Vlasto the Operations Director of the RNLI.
The were described as being of bronze, but we doubt that. It 'sounds' as fibre-glass resin.
