Description

Bronze statue of pope John Paul II embracing two kneeling children, based on a photograph taken at the pope's visit in 1980. At one of the Papal Masses, a boy and a girl knelt before the pope to present their gifts. The pope reached out his arms and drew the children towards himself in a gesture of affection.

Around the statue is a Heritage wall with the text that the monument in 1993 was dedicated to commemorate the generosity to Maynooth of those of Irish descent whose names together of those of their families are recorded on the Heritage Wall.
