Description

Bronze statue of Pope Paul V, sitting on a chair and wearing his papal robes and the tiara.

On the sides and the back of the chair are reliefs:

Rimini - Papa Paolo V

To avoid the removal of the statue accoring the Napoleonic provinces, the statue was re-dedicated in 1797 to St. Gaudentius, patron saint of Rimini. The papal tiara was replaced by a bishop's mitria and in his left hand was placed the pastoral staff while his right hand was attentive to the blessing. In 1936 the work was brought back to its original state by remodeling and refitting the headgear and right hand (cf. the statue of Gregory XIII in Bologna).
