Description

Half figure of Cardinal Cerejeira looking into the sky (not to the statue of Cristo Rei), holding in his hands the plans for the statue of Cristo Rei, with the dates connected to this statue, from 1934 (the idea) to 1959 (the inaugauration) and the names of the ones involved in the construction:
arquitecto antónio lino
eng. d. francisco de mello e castro (galveias)
esc. francisco franco

On the side of the pedestal is a portrait of Sebastião Pinto.

Almada - Manuel Gonçalves Cerejeira

The monument is controversial, since Cerejeira was a close friend of dictator Salazar and one of the ideologists of Salazar's Estado Novo. This is obviously the reason that in September 2011 red paint was thrown over the monument (and it was not cleaned six years later).
