Description

Bronze sculptural group showing a family with a suitcase. The statue stands in front of Sta. Apolónia Station, where many emigrants left for Europe.

The construction of this monument was an initiative of the newspaper "Tempo"
and was inaugurated on 10 June 1981, the Day of Portugal and the Portuguese
comunities.

Besides the emigrants, contributed:

The Secretary of state, of emigration and Portuguese communities, the regional
government of Madeira, the city council of Lisboa, the city council of Seia;

Overseas National Bank, Banque Franco-Portugaise, banque, Portuguese
Atlantic Bank, Espiritu Santo Bank and Commercial of Lisbon, Bank
Pinto & Sotto Mayor, Bank Borges & brother, Union of Portuguese
Banks, Joframa, Imperio insurance company, Trannando
insurance company, Grafiexport - "Tempo International".
