Beschrijving / Description

Sculpture of three historical women with their roots in Turnhout. The busts of the woman are standing on roots in the Turnhout soil. Depicted are:
  1. (center) Maria van Brabant / Mary of Brabant, Duchess of Gelre (1325-1399) was granted the Land of Turnhout, which also included neighboring villages (Wikipedia).
  2. (right) Mary of Hungary (Brussel 1505 - Cigales 1558), Governor of the Habsburg Netherlands, ruled between 1545 and 1558 the Land of Turnhout and restored the Castle of the Dukes of Brabant (Wikipedia).
  3. (left) Amalia van Solms (Braunfels 1602 - Den Haag 1675) is the third Lady of Turnhout depicted, she ruled since 1639 (Wikipedia).
