Beschrijving / Description

Fontein bekroond door een leeuw met zijn rechtervoorpoot op een wapenschild met een de letter A vergezeld door een bril, het jaartal 1831 en een olijftak. Deze voorstelling is kort na 1831 aangebracht en werd het symbool van de Belgische onafhankelijkheid.
Het schild met de letter A is het wapenschild van de stad Oudenaarde. De bril is toegevoegd naar een oud volksverhaal (zie hier) .

Fountain crowned by a lion with its right foreleg on a coat of arms with a the letter A accompanied by glasses, the year 1831 and an olive branch. This representation was applied shortly after 1831 and became the symbol of Belgian independence.
The shield with the letter A is the coat of arms of the town of Oudenaarde. The glasses were added after an old folk tale (zie here)
