Statues - Hither & Thither

 

Description

Two suspended figures – a businessman with a briefcase and an elegantly dressed woman – are suspended from an umbrella high above the street. They belong "to the working middle-class society who have taken the biggest hit in the recession. The airborne figures portray an expression of sadness, despair and an apparent instability."
They are part of Michal Trpák's 'Slight Uncertainty' installation, a much larger group of figures displayed in the EBC office building in Prague. "Statues behind the office windows can create a sense of lightness, but also uncertainty about the length of the flight and landing. While some are still hovering, the others are already waiting for landing and it is not yet clear how long the flight will be in times of economic crisis and whether the landing will be hard or soft."
