Statues - Hither & Thither

 

Description

Statue of Mácha with a youthful appearance, in a distinctly stooped posture with his head slightly bowed, his left elbow resting on the unusually shaped plinth. In his right hand, he holds a pen, with which he has apparently just written a few new verses in an open notebook, whilst in his left hand he clutches a bouquet of lilacs, which he is just about to smell.
n the left-hand corner of the plinth is a laurel wreath in bronze, from which hangs a bronze ribbon bearing the embossed inscription: byl pozdní večer, první máj (It was late in the evening, the first of May. To the right of the statue is a decoration of lime tree twigs and a miniature coat of arms featuring the Bohemian lion.

A replica was installed on 21 November 2010 in Litoměřice, at the foot of Mostka Hill.
