Description

Statue of St. John the Baptist with a cross and a sheep, dating from the first third of the 18th century. On the plinth is a relief depicting the Meeting of St Ivan the Hermit (Sv. Ivan poustevník), Wikipedia) and St. John the Baptist. According to legend, Ivan lived as a hermit in a cave near what is now Svatý Jan pod Skalou. When he was tormented by demons and decided to leave the cave, Saint John the Baptist appeared to him. John gave him a wooden cross, with which Ivan then drove the demons out of his cave.
