Abstract group of figures derived from the mother-child theme. It shows an two-storey figure building with an interwoven body-space penetration. In the center is a double-faced mother's head, below which the mother's shoulders and upper body are indicated, from which both oversized arms reach up to protectively embrace the child's head as it sits on it. "In the mother-child sculpture from 1974, Balden again takes up a topic that was central to him. The child's emancipating self-will grows out of the stability of the mother's form of body, which no longer refers to the nourishing breasts, but to the support of the gigantic arms. The excessive attention paid to the detaching child is illustrated in the double face of the mother's head" (Theo Balden, 1904-1995, Skulpturen, Ed. by Susanne and Klaus Hebecker, Erfurt 2004, p. 32).
