Description

Marble statue of Liebig sitting in a chair. On the sides of the pedestail two reliefs:

A Greek philosopher with a bundle of ears on his lap teaching a boy - this symbolizes Liebig as teacher and reformator of agriculture.
Seating woman with a book chemie agricultur physiologie and two putti, one with a distilling piston on a tubular furnace (probably a Liebig condenser).

Annotation

The both boys on the relief are the sons of the sculptor Wagmüller (Kurda 2005, p. 179). The head of one of the boys is however gone, probably war damage.
