Fassade des KaiserhausesFacade of the Emperors House |
Bildhauer des 16. Jahrhunderts / 16th century sculptor
1587/1998 |

The Kaiserhaus (Emperors House) was a Renaissance building in Hildesheim built in 1587 as the first stone dwelling house in Hildesheim for Caspar Borcholt. It was destroyed in the air raid on Hildesheim on 22 March 1945. Parts of the façade were integrated into a new building on the Alter Markt, completed in 1998, to which the name Kaiserhaus was thereby transferred.
The façade decoration integrated into the new building includes figures symbolising the Assyrian-Babylonian, Persian, Greek and Roman empires from the left, a bay window with representations of the four seasons, as well as 46 medallions with portraits of Roman emperors, from which the name Kaiserhaus derives.
