Stone statue of St. John of Nepomuk holding a large crucifix, and flanked by two putti, one holds his bonnet, and the other has his finger over his mouth and holds a shield with the text "Prohibe linguam tuam a malo, Psalm 33 v 44" (keep back your tongue from evil).
On the pedestal is a rellief showing St. John's martyrdom, and aboven this two coats-of-arms and the names "J. Lethmate" and "J.M. Wellendorff".

The original statue was destroyed in the Second World War. The replica was placed in 1980, when a new bridge was built.

NEPOMUK die statue des brückenheiligen ist eine stiftung des amtsrent- meisters johann lethmate und seiner frau magdalena wetten- dorf aus dem jahre 1735. das werk des bildhauers joh. adolf sasse aus coes- feld wurde bei der sprengung der brücke im kriegsjahr 1945 zerstört und 1980 durch eine rekonstruktion in kunststein ersetzt. |
ST. JOHN OF NEPOMUK The statue of the bridge saint was donated by the local steward Johann Lethmate and his wife Magdalena Wettendorf in 1735. The work of the sculptor Joh. Adolf Sasse from Coesfeld was destroyed when the bridge was blown up in 1945 and in 1980 replaced by a reconstruction in artificial stone. |
