21. SKULPTUR ST. MARGARETA Die heilige Margareta ist im Glaubensleben der Asbecker Dorfbevölkerung fest verankert. So finden wir Ihren Namen häufig im Alltagsleben wieder. Wir sprechen von der Margaretenschule, dem Margaretendamm, der früheren Margaretenkirmes oder Margaretenfest und natürlich von der Kirche St. Margareta. An zahlreichen Stellen des Dorfes erinnerten teils lebensgroße und oftmals sehr qualitätvolle Figuren an die Heilige. Heute sind diese häufig aus Schutzgründen, wie an dieser Stelle, in der Dorfmitte, dem Museum oder der Kirche anzutreffen. Die Hl. Margareta ist die Patronin der ehemaligen Pfarr- und Stiftskirche in Asbeck und zählt zu den 14 Nothelfern. Sie wird bei schweren Geburten angerufen und ist Schutzheilige des Ackerbaus. Diese Skulptur der Hl. Margareta zeigt sich mit Krone, besiegtem Drachen und Palmzweig. Die Krone ist als ehrendes Märtyrerzeichen zu verstehen. Als Pendant zum Hl. Nepomuk (Standort 19) stand die Skulptur ehemals an der alten Brücke, in der Nähe des heutigen Feuerwehrgerätehauses, am Eingang des Dorfes. |
21. STATUE OF ST MARGARET St Margaret is deeply rooted in the religious life of the people of Asbeck. Her name therefore features frequently in everyday life. We refer to St Margaret’s School, St Margaret’s Embankment, the former St Margaret’s Fair or St Margaret’s Festival, and, of course, St Margaret’s Church. In numerous places around the village, statues of the saint – some life-sized and often of very high quality – served as reminders of her. Today, for reasons of protection, these can frequently be found, as is the case here, in the village centre, the museum or the church. St Margaret is the patron saint of the former parish and collegiate church in Asbeck and is one of the 14 Holy Helpers. She is invoked during difficult births and is the patron saint of agriculture. This sculpture of St Margaret is depicted with a crown, a vanquished dragon and a palm branch. The crown is to be understood as a sign of honour for her martyrdom. As a counterpart to St Nepomuk (Location 19), the sculpture formerly stood by the old bridge, near the present-day fire station, at the entrance to the village. |
