The monument consists of two concrete blocks of 3 x 2,35x 0.6m; weight: 16 tonnes; they are arranged opposite each other, make each other's positive and negative.
One element grew out of the other. ... This interaction is endless.
In the performance of the relief part the human figure is important: displayed patchy and livesize this is a great symbolic expression of come and go ... a timeless happening.
Man as a messenger, pilgrim, the eternal affirmation of life, movement, change,
...and metaphor of an evolutionary process.
Obtained by molding a live model of one man and one woman, the whole composition is modeled in clay and in actual size - then cast in polyester - rebuilt to a production mold and made of concrete.
The female figure makes a rotary movement around its own axis and in longitudinal direction of the block. Meaning in motion. The male figure, however, apparently has a different kind of dynamics. The entire production was done deliberately in public. At each 'ontmalling' or loose-operation, the carillon of the basilica was alternately played by Raf Verjans and carillonneur J. Lenaerts.
