Jülich / Lazarus-Brunnen   Jülich / Lazarus-Brunnen

Description

Sculpture of three men holding a cloth in wich a straw puppet man is lying. A fifth man stands aside with a broom in his hands.

The sculpture refers to e Jülich tradition. On the Tuesday after Rose Monday, a puppet made of straw is carried through the town. The puppet is called Lazarus Strohmanus. It wears white trousers and a blue shirt. On its head is a colourful cap. The same clothes the men who walk through the town are wearing. At some places in the town the men line up and hold a big cloth. With the cloth the straw doll is thrown high up into the air and caught again.
