Kornmarkt
1355 verlieh Engelbert III. Graf von der Mark dem Dorf HerdeckeSackträgerbrunnen die Marktrechte. Als Platz dienten Freiflächen im Stift (Rathausplatz) und teilweise angrenzende Wege (heute Bahnhof-, Haupt- und Vestestraße). 1630 wurde der Kornmarkt in die untere Hauptstraße verlagert. Er entwickelte sich zu einem bedeutenden Umschlagplatz in Westfalen: Um 1800 zogen an jedem Markttag etwa 500 Pferde die mit Korn beladenen Fuhrwerke durch den Ort. Die umgesetzte Gesamtmenge des Getreides an einem Markttag entsprach 1840 rund 16 Tanklastzügen mit je 20.000 1 Inhalt. Die hiesigen Getreidepreise bestimmten zugleich die Preisfestsetzung für Bier, Grob- und Feinbrot (Bäckertaxe) im Ort, nach 1800 auch für das Umland. Ab 1825 übernahmen nur von der Stadt lizensierte sogen. Ablader das Be- und Entladen. Der Unternehmer und Mäzen Heinrich Habig ließ 1937 den Sackträgerbrunnen anlässlich des 150-jährigen Bestehens der Kampsträter Nachbarschaft errichten. Das Denkmal erinnert an die über 500-jährige Geschichte des Herdecker Kornmarktes. |

Grain Market
In 1355 Engelbert III Count of Mark granted market rights to the villageSack Bearer Fountain of Herdecke. Open spaces in the monastery (town hall square) and partially adjoining streets (today Bahnhofstrasse, Hauptstrasse and Vestestrasse) served as market places. In 1630 the Kornmarkt was relocated to the lower main Hauptstrasse. It developed into an important transhipment point in Westphalia: Around 1800, around 500 horses pulled carts loaded with grain through the town on every market day. The total amount of grain sold on a market day in 1840 corresponded to around 16 tankers with 20,000 liters each. The local grain prices also determined the prices for beer, coarse bread and fine bread (baker's tax) in the village, and after 1800 also for the surrounding area. From 1825 only the so-called Ablader licensed by the town took care of loading and unloading. The entrepreneur and patron Heinrich Habig had the Sack Bearer Fountain built in 1937 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Kampsträter neighborhood. The monument commemorates the more than 500-year history of the Herdecke grain market. |
