Description

The History Column is a fountain given to the city in 1992 for the 2000 year anniversary of Land Rheinland-Pfalz. Completed and handed over to the city it was, however, not until 1 June 2000. The over 10½ meter high column tells the 2000-year history of the city of Koblenz in ten scenes from Roman times to today.

From bottom to top following eras and events are displayed:

-- A boat loaded with wine barrels forms the base of the column.

Vom fränkischen Reich an Kurtrier (From Regnum Franconum to the Electorate of Trier)	Kreuzzüge / Sklavenhandel (Crusades / slave trade)
Blühende städtische Gemeinde (Prospering community).	30-jähriger Krieg / Hexenwahn (Thirty Years War / Persecution of witches)
Französische Revolution (French Revolution).	Preußische Epoche (Prussian Era)
Zerstörung 1944 (Destruction in 1944)	Eine zukunftsorientierte Stadt (Future-oriented City)
