Description

The statue showing Goethe as a student. The 2.50 m high plinth of red Meissen granite has on the front and back sides texts, and on sides portraitmedaillons of Goethe's female friends in his Leipzig time. The plinth was designed by the architect Max Bischoff.
The statue was unveiled on 28 June 1903.

(right) friederike oeser - Friederike Oeser (1748-1829), the daughter of Goethe's Leipzig drawing teacher Adam Friedrich Oeser (1717-1799), with whom Goethe maintained a friendly relationship.

(left) käthchen schönkopf - Anna Katharina Schönkopf (1746-1810), the innkeeper's daughter of the inn where Goethe had lunch during his time as a student in Leipzig, and who was his first great love.
