Description

Octagonal fountain with in the center a sandstone statue of Neptune with trident, and a putti riding a dolphin at his feet. Below the statue the words "QUOS EGO" (Whom I), a quote from Virgil's Aeneid, uttered by Neptune in threat to the disobedient and rebellious winds.

Annotation

The original statue was replaced by copies in 1928 and 1971.

Sculptor

Martin Gottlieb Klauer (Rudolstadt 1742 - Weimar 1801), court sculptor of Weimar (Wikipedia).
