Beschreibung / Description

The old Town Hall of Gotha was built in 1567-77 In the years 1897-98 the façade and the interior was redesigned in the style of the neo-Renaissance. Most (or all) of the façade sculptures date from this reconstruction, they are described here.

On the tower are four sandstene statues of female allegorical figures.

Unity, Blindfolded woman with fasces, symbol of the magistrate's power and jurisdiction

Hope (?), Winged woman with anchor?

Prudence, with mirror and snake

Abundance (?), with torch and cornucopia
