Description
Azulejo with a portrait of Christopher Columbus (renewed in 1988 by Pepita Lena) at the end of a small square, the Plaza Cristobal Colon, which has in the pavement also the year 1938.

Annotation
Christopher Columbus went to Spain in 1485, and in La Rábida he got a letter of introduction for the Don Luis de la Cerda, Count of Medina Celi, He performed some services for the count, that brought him a compensation of 3000 maravedis in May, 1487. Columbus lived about two years at the home of the count in El Puerto de Santa Maria and made unsuccessful endeavors to interest him in his scheme of maritime exploration. The count arranged a meeting between Columbus and Queen Isabella.
