Description

Statue of two Guanches carrying the statue of the Virgin de El Socorro (Our Lady of Perpetual Help). According to the legend the mencey Acaimo tried to pick up the statue of the Virgin of Candelaria after its discovery on the beach of Chimisay, in the village of Güimarero. The statue became very heavy and he had to ask for help or assistance to transport it to its cave-palace in Chinguaro.
Every year between 7 and 8 september in a huge procession the Virgin de El Socorro is brought from the Church of Saint Peter of Güímar to the coast where the original statue of the Virgin of Candelaria was found. On the coast a theatrical performance of the discovery of the image is played.
