Description

Marble bust on a high pedestal. At the foot of the pedestail is a bronze allegorical group representing a peasant woman, a familiar figure in Millet's paintings, her child in her arms that tends wildflowers to the painter. The pedestal has behind the bust an oak with an owl and at the base the rocks of Gréville rocks. The monument combines marble for the bust, bronze for the group and granite for the pedestal.

Annotation

The monument was originally designed by Chapu and after his death finished by Bouteillier, he redesigned the bust and added the allegorical group.
