Horace Wells et Paul Bert

Horace Wells (Hartford, Conn. 1815 - New York 1848), American dentist who pioneered the use of anaesthesia in dentistry, specifically nitrous oxide (or laughing gas) (Wikipedia).

Paul Bert (Auxerre 1833 - Hanoi 1886), French zoologist, physiologist and politician. He is sometimes given the sobriquet "Father of Aviation Medicine" (Wikipedia).

Annotation

The monument was dedicated on 27 March 1910 during the tenth session of the FDI World Dental Federation, which was then known as the Fédération dentaire internationale. On the right side of the base of the monument, the sculptor incised the portrait of the physiologist, Paul Bert, who was also an early experimenter in anaesthetics, respiration, and asphyxia.
