la guerre a refusé une
sépulture connue et les
honneurs rendus a leurs

divisions of the british
armies served in the line
with them and shared
the common sacrifice
here are recorded the
names of 3987 officers
and men of those
divisions to whom the
fortune of war denied
the known and honoured
burial given to their
comrades in death

Annotation

The Soissons Memorial commemorates almost 4,000 officers and men who died during the Battles of the Aisne and the Marne in 1918 and who have no known grave. The memorial, designed by G.H. Holt and V.O. Rees with sculpture by Eric Kennington, was unveiled in 1928.
