The statue was debunked by the German Army during the First World War to be melted, then reconstituted by Félix Charpentier, a student of Doublemard. The monument was inaugurated again on 17 September 17 at the same time as the War Memorial of the Familistère. It was acquired by the city of Guise at the same time as the central place of the Familistè're in 1981.
