The monument consists of a square base bearing a stone obelisk with a stone bust (with the name gambetta on the top. It commemorates French war minister Leon Gambetta with his friend Eugene Spuller who fled in a hot-air balloon from the siege of Paris by the Germans 7 October 1870. The balloon was caught in a tree near É pineuse
On the obelisk is a plaque with the names of the fallen during World War I/
