Description

Bronze statue of Sommeiller with in his hand papers premier percement des alpes

. He is standing on some rocks, and at his foot a gear wheel, symbol of industry.

Annotation

Inaugurated 8 June 1884. In 1943 the statue was transported to Paris to be melted and in 1946 the base ws demolished. About 1950 the statue was found in a Paris deposit and replaced on 14 October 1953 on a new stand, In 1964 transferred to the present location.
