La Fresque du Demi Millénaire, Deuxième Partie / The Fresco of the Half Millennium, Part Two

The statue of Freud is one of the five parts of the second part of the Fresco of the Half Millennium, a 600 m long art ensemble along the wall of the Saint John of God Hospital (Hôpital St. Jean de Dieu), realised in 1998 and 2000. This 'Fresco' commemorates the 500th anniversary of the birth of Saint John of God (1495-1550), founder of the Hospitaller Order of the Brothers of Saint John of God.

The first part, 1998, is a series of frescos to the right of the entrance of the hospital, the second part, inaugurated 2000, is to the left of the entrance and consists of the following five parts (see also the information sign):

The coats of arms of Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal, birth-place of Saint Jean de Deu (St. John of God) (see his statue in Montemor-o-Novo); Granada, the town where in 1539 the Hospitaller Order of the Brothers of Saint John of God was founded; and Lyon, where in 1824 the Saint John of God Hospital was founded.

Bambousaie Création paysagère, hommage à une noble plante, symbole de paix et de sérénité, de bonheur, de souplesse et de constance. Armoiries, création Viuva Lamego (Lisbonne) Montemor O Novo: naissance au Portugal (1495) de Joao Cidade (St Jean de Dieu). Grenade: fondation en Espagne (1539) de l'Ordre Hospitalier de St Jean de Dieu. Lyon: création en 1824 de l'Hôpital St Jean de Dieu par Paul de Magallon. Lyon, Ville de Lumière - création Georges Faure et «Les Eléphants Heureux» Hommage au coeur histoque de la Ville de Lyon, classé par l'UNESCO Patromoine Mondial de l'Humanité. A l'initiative et sous la coordination de l'Association du Demi Millénaire (Dr Mohammed ATTIA, Président-Fondateur, Mme Josée PIZZO-GOLGO, Trésorière, Dr Alain ROUGIER, Secrétaire), La Fresque du Demi Millénaire, ensemble international de créations picturales, céramiques et paysagères, a été conçe avec le concours du Centre Hospitalier Saint Jean de Dieu (M. Paul MONOT, Directeur, M. Vincent BISSUEL, Architect) et le partenariat de la Ville de Lyon, la Mairie du 8° arrondissement, la Ville de Vénissieux, le Conseil Général du Rhône, le Ministère de la Culture - DRAC Rhône-Alpes - , la Société Vachon.
