The main part of the monument is the bronze statue representing an allegory of the City of Lyon (a woman with a flag) sending her 'children' to the war. At the side is a 'document' with the names of the battle fields. The statue stands on a large pedestal, with on the front a lion breaking a sword (sculpted by Charles Textor). The statue is in a semicircle with columns.
The architect is Adolphe Coquet.
