Bronze plaque with relief portrait circumscribed: RICHARD NORMAN SHAW ARCHITECT - 1831 · 1912

Annotation

Unveiled 13 July 1914. Lethaby commended Thornycroft on his posthumous likeness of Shaw: "You must have remembered much, the curled over lip and the serious smiling, saucy look are so alike..." The building is generally regarded as Shaw's masterpiece.

Sculptor

Sir William Hamo Thornycroft (London 1850 - 1925), British sculptor, son of Thomas Thornycroft (Wikipedia).
