Description

Large bronze statue of Newton, sitting on a chair working with a pair of compasses on the floor in front of him. The sculpture is based upon a drawing by William Blake (1757-1827), demonstrating his opposition to the 'single-vision' of scientific materialism: Newton fixes his eye on a compass (recalling Proverbs 8:27, an important passage for the poet John Milton, who was considered by Blake as the major English poet) to write upon a scroll that seems to project from his own head.
