The pedestal has two bronze reliefs and two plaques with lists of names.

On the right side is a plaque listing 62 names of the men on SS Terror lost on the expedition, with the text: her majesty's ship teror - "they forged the last link with their lives"
On the left side is a plaque listing 67 names of the men on SS Erebus lost on the expedition, with the text; her majesty's ship erebus - "they forged the last link with their lives".
