Description

Obelisk rising from a panelled base of which the front supports a pedestal with a figure of a 'Buff' attired in khaki, standing with rifle in hand. It is said he looks towards South Africa. Regimental badges are on each appropriate face and a wreath on front face behind the head of soldier.

THE BUFFS - EAST KENT REGIMENT
and of the
IMPERIAL YEOMANRY OF EAST KENT
who gave their lives in the country's cause
during the war in south africa 1899 - 1902
This memorial has been erected by their com
rades in arms belonging to east kent regiments
and by their sorrowing friends in the county

Annotation

Unveiled 31 May 1904 by Field Marshall Earl Roberts. The monument is designed by W.D. Caroe, we did not found the name of the sculptor of the statue.
