Description

Stone statue of Roland with sword and shield, on which the Riga coat-of-arms. The original status

Annotation

The statue is a copy made by Krumiņš and unveiled in May 2000. It replaces the 1897 statue, designed by Wilhelm Neumann and sculpted by August Volz, which was pulled down by the Soviets in 1945. Volz's statue, which is now protected inside Saint Peter's church, replaced the original 14th-century wooden one.
