The statue was made for a feira de S. João in Évora at the 8th centennary of the taking of the city (thus 1965), stood later for a time in front of the Municipal Hall in Valverde and since c. 2012 on the present spot (the photo on Flickr, taken 12 February 2013, shows it on a rather new base).
The sign is no longer present. Text from a photo on Flickr, taken 12 February 2013.
