Ceremony set for Leif Ericson statue
A ceremony to celebrate the recent lighting of the bronze statue of Leif Ericson at Juneau Park will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday .
The celebration will include ethnic dancing, singing, a Viking impersonator and a nearly 30-foot replica of a Viking ship. The enhancement to the statue, which has stood at the lakefront for 114 years, was an effort of the Sons of Norway Fosselyngen Lodge, Milwaukee County and the city of Milwaukee.
The $3,800 cost of the lighting was funded through a bequest of the late Duane Olson, a longtime lodge member.
